Changes to Prescribing in Bromley

Over the Counter (OTC) Prescribing Changes

The following is from the Bromley Clinical Commissioning Groups webpages:

The CCG’s Governing Body agreed to change prescribing guidelines for health supplements and selected self-care medicines for short term illnesses.

This means that from 1 December 2017, GPs in Bromley will no longer routinely prescribe these medicines on NHS prescription. Over the counter medicines and on-the-spot expert advice from qualified pharmacists are widely available at pharmacies across Bromley.

This decision follows extensive public engagement which took place between 31 July 2017 and 8 October 2017.  The Governing Body considered all the findings and feedback very carefully before making its decision to agree the proposals.

We anticipate that these proposals will:

  • Encourage more people to self-manage minor conditions.
  • Free up doctor and nurses’ time for those most in need.
  • Enable the CCG to get the best value from the funding that is available for services in Bromley
